Embellishments come in all shapes, sizes and colors. You may be asking, “What exactly is an embellishment?” According to Dictionary.com, an embellishment is a type of decoration or an ornament. Strictly speaking, anything that decorates or adds to your scrapbook page or card, is an embellishment. Just think of all the things that can you use to do just that. Embellishments can be ribbon, brads, eyelets, lace, jewels, beads, stickers, punches, rubber stamps and more. They can also be cut outs, phrases, rub-ons or glitter. Whatever you choose to add to your page is considered an embellishment.

Embellishments are what help to make your pages jump out. It helps give it some personality and dresses it up. You can use as many or as little as you like. Embellishments also come in themes. Those are great for card making and also for scrapbooking. Now, instead of having pictures on paper with some background color matting, you can put stickers, sayings and use die cuts to frame your pictures. You can use foam tape on some of these embellishments which will raise it off the page for a 3-D look.

When looking for scrapbook or card making embellishments, you can find many embellishment kits. These can come with ribbon, brads and other types of items. In fact, you can also find scrapbook kits with theme and embellishments. If you subscribe to any scrapbook magazine, just flip thru the pages to see just how creative people have become with this hobby. One thing I like about having brads, eyelets, buttons and other small embellishments is that they can be stored in jars or even your husband’s old fishing tackle box! The little compartments are great!

There are event binders made specifically for stickers and rub-ons. This really helps to keep your stickers grouped by theme, or whichever order you prefer. The trick is to keep them in their proper spot so you can find them easily when you browse through. As I accumulate projects that I like to do, I keep my scrapbook paper and card stock separately, but I keep my embellishments for both together. You’ll be surprised at how many of your scrapbook pages and cards can share the same embellishments.
