Supplies…now it’s time to go crazy!

Supplies include glue, scissors, paper, embellishments, die cuts, stickers and paper cutters. But that is just a short list. Depending on if you are just beginning this hobby, you could easily start out with some paper, stickers and scissors. As you progress, you’ll need to add items to help cut out your photos in to different shapes. There are many of these supplies available. If you are like me, I’m a combo digital and hand-made scrapbooker. I love to find sites where I can download embellishments, also known as E-Cuts. These E-Cuts are die cuts that you download and with some, you can change the color or add text. This way, you can have endless supplies. Here are some examples of the different types of die cut supplies:

Supplies, such as glue and adhesives, come in all shapes and sizes. You can purchase dispensers that you just roll on to the back of your picture or embellishment and stick in on the paper. A word to the wise here: when purchasing adhesive, be sure to see if it is repositionable or permanent. Trust me, if it says permanent, it is! Also, be sure the adhesive is scrapbook safe. You want to make sure it doesn’t discolor your photos or pages. The different names of supplies that fall into this category would be glue dots, also called Zots, adhesive strips or even glue sticks.

Supplies can also change the look of your embellishments. You can use foam stickers to raise your embellishments to create a layered look. Photo corners are also great to use to decorate your picture. These come in many different types. Some photo corners are just black or white; some come in pastels, as decorative flowers and so on.

To me, scissors and paper cutters are the most critical supplies. If you don’t have sharp scissors or accurate paper cutters, you won’t get a crisp, clean look when cutting your photos. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t get a good cut since you can always use stickers, brads, eyelets or other embellishments to cover the bad spot. Scissors come in all sizes, but I would recommend scissors with a sharp point. When cutting out embellishments or other die cuts, round scissors just don’t cut it! As for paper cutters, those also come in many different shapes and sizes. Depending on if you will have a stationary place to keep it, or if you’ll be storing it, there will be one in just the right size.

You’ll also want to keep supplies of colored pens or pencils on hand. There are special pens that are made specifically for writing on photos, if you choose to do that. Colored pencils can also be used to add definition to your project. You’ll also need a good set of pens for journaling, if you plan to hand write your journals or captions. Again, you’ll be surprised at the many varieties of pen and pencil supplies.

Basic supplies, such as scissors, glue or adhesive and decorative paper are all the supplies you need to get started. The more variations you have to choose from, the more unique your scrapbook will become. As you develop your deep love for scrapbooking or card making, you’ll see how very handy these supplies can be. Here are some  organizational supplies:
